Holiday Food Baskets, Dec 2008
- This year we provided 34 "baskets" of food to families in Livermore's CAPE Program.  The baskets were actually large Costco bags, which were donated by Costco and can be reused.  Many of the volunteers in the photos are students, or ex-students, of Catherine's spanish classes.  Thanks to the many volunteers who helped on this project, and to those who provided the funds and food.

Pleasanton Christmas Parade - 1st Annual for BasicNecessities
- And a good time was had by all... This was our first parade. BasicNecessities' entry in the Pleasanton Hometown Holiday Parade this year (yes, we're already thinking about next year) consisted of a classic 1967 Chevy Camaro, followed by a small entourage escorting two miniature ponys carrying christmas presents, and a third car decked out with lights and a giant Santa.

Ensenada 2008 Summer Mission
- This year BasicNecessities.org provided funds for the initial school year startup of Casa de Pan, a children's center in an impoverished community above Ensenada Mexico, where latch-key children (grades K - 5) are able to stay safely until their parents return home from work, and where they receive a hot meal, love and attention.  We also provided funding for Pablo Garcia's Cuba mission trip this August.  Pablo is a misionary at the church La Gran Comisión.  In addition, Director Charles spent 4 days working with Valley Community Church of Pleasanton, California to do repairs and construction in the homes of 12 single mothers.  The construction and repair work included building closets and shelves, and installing or repairing wash basins and plumbing.

Tijuana House Build Mission, June 2008
- This year BasicNecessities.org hosted a small mission team in support of a Corazón.org house build project in an impoverished area of Tijuana, Mexico.  We were able to "build a house in a day", under the leadership and guidance of Corazón.org.  This project was funded primarily by St. Clair's Episcopal Church in Pleasanton, California.

Nosotras en Control, July 2008
- This year's Nosotras en Control program was a huge success. Thirty one young Latina middle school and high school age girls attended this year's program of self esteem-building and life skill workshops.  The photos show the closing ceremonies, graduation, awards, and the final banquet.  Additional information can be found on the BasicNecessities blog.

Hoops for Virginia Tech, May 18, 2007
- The Las Positas basketball team supported a fundraiser to support the students at Virginia Tech after the shooting tragedy earlier this year.  Each team member had people signed up to support the fundraiser based on the number of hoops that they should make out of 100.  BasicNecessities held a raffle during this event.

Baskets of Love, Mother's Day, May 2007
- This past May we delivered 25 gift baskets to the homeless moms at Tri-Valley Haven and Shepherd's Gate homeless and domestic violence shelters in Livermore, CA.  Although we cannot show you pictures of the moms for privacy reasons, we can show you the pictures of our team putting the "baskets" together and delivering them.  We didn't use real baskets for space reasons, at the request of the shelters.

Nosotras en Control, March 2007
- Held in March 2007 (our first annual program) for young Latinas, this program helped to strengthen self-respect, encourage physical restraint in relationships, and teach the girls that they are the owners of their bodies.  This year, we hope to hold the program for 200 young Latinas.
