PRESS RELEASE - BASIC NECESSITIES.ORG
Items Collected for Baskets of Love
The Valley Times - 04/24/2008
BasicNecessities.org, a Tri-Valley non-profit, is currently accepting donations for its second annual Baskets of Love initiative. The Baskets of Love are a Mother's Day gift that provide Tri-Valley mothers living in conditions of hardship with amenities that are normally not a part of their daily lives.
Over the last year BasicNecessities.org handed out baskets to 35 mothers living at two local shelters, Shepherd's Gate and the Tri-Valley Haven, as well as to moms living with their children in their cars or on the streets. Each basket contained a gift certificate for a hair cut at a local salon, a gift certificate at a local restaurant, nail polish, mascara, lip gloss, earrings and a bracelet, a music CD, a journal, coffee or tea and a mug, bath items, in addition to other items. These gifts were made possible thanks to the numerous individuals and businesses that donated merchandise, gift certificates and more than $6,000 in cash and in-kind donations. This year, BasicNecessities.org hopes to expand the number of moms they serve to 60. The mothers will receive their baskets on May 9. Donations will be accepted until May 5. For information, please contact Catherine Suárez at (925) 424-1212. All gifts are tax deductible.
